¹וַיַּקְהֵ֣ל דָּוִ֣יד אֶת־כָּל־שָׂרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל שָׂרֵ֣י הַשְּׁבָטִ֣ים וְשָׂרֵ֣י הַמַּחְלְק֣וֹת הַמְשָׁרְתִ֪ים אֶת־הַמֶּ֟לֶךְ וְשָׂרֵ֣י הָאֲלָפִ֣ים וְשָׂרֵ֣י הַמֵּא֡וֹת וְשָׂרֵ֣י כָל־רְכוּשׁ־וּמִקְנֶה֩ ׀ לַמֶּ֨לֶךְ וּלְבָנָ֜יו עִם־הַסָּרִיסִ֧ים וְהַגִּבּוֹרִ֛ים וּֽלְכָל־גִּבּ֥וֹר חָ֖יִל אֶל־יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

vayyakhel david et-kal-sare yisra'el sare hashevatim vesare hammachlekot hamshartim et-hammelekh vesare ha'alafim vesare hammeot vesare khal-rekhush-umikne lammelekh ulevanav im-hassarisim vehaggibborim ulekhal-gibbor chayil el-yerushalam

And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that served the king by course, and the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, and the rulers over all the substance and cattle of the king and of his sons, with the officers, and the mighty men, even all the mighty men of valour, unto Jerusalem.

²וַיָּ֨קָם דָּוִ֤יד הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ עַל־רַגְלָ֔יו וַיֹּ֕אמֶר שְׁמָע֖וּנִי אַחַ֣י וְעַמִּ֑י אֲנִ֣י עִם־לְבָבִ֡י לִבְנוֹת֩ בֵּ֨ית מְנוּחָ֜ה לַאֲר֣וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָ֗ה וְלַהֲדֹם֙ רַגְלֵ֣י אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ וַהֲכִינ֖וֹתִי לִבְנֽוֹת׃

vayyakam david hammelekh al-raglav vayyomer shema'uni achay ve'ammi ani im-levavi livnot bet menucha la'aron berit-ADONAI velahadom ragle elohenu vahakhinoti livnot

Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said: ‘Hear me, my brethren, and my people; as for me, it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God; and I had made ready for the building.

³וְהָאֱלֹהִים֙ אָ֣מַר לִ֔י לֹא־תִבְנֶ֥ה בַ֖יִת לִשְׁמִ֑י כִּ֣י אִ֧ישׁ מִלְחָמ֛וֹת אַ֖תָּה וְדָמִ֥ים שָׁפָֽכְתָּ׃

veha'elohim amar li lo-tivne vayit lishmi ki ish milchamot atta vedamim shafakhta

But God said unto me: Thou shalt not build a house for My name, because thou art a man of war, and hast shed blood.

⁴וַיִּבְחַ֡ר יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵי֩ יִשְׂרָאֵ֨ל בִּ֜י מִכֹּ֣ל בֵּית־אָבִ֗י לִהְי֨וֹת לְמֶ֤לֶךְ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לְעוֹלָ֔ם כִּ֤י בִֽיהוּדָה֙ בָּחַ֣ר לְנָגִ֔יד וּבְבֵ֥ית יְהוּדָ֖ה בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֑י וּבִבְנֵ֣י אָבִ֔י בִּ֣י רָצָ֔ה לְהַמְלִ֖יךְ עַל־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

vayyivchar ADONAI elohe yisra'el bi mikkol bet-avi lihyot lemelekh al-yisra'el le'olam ki vihuda bachar lenagid uvevet yehuda bet avi uvivne avi bi ratza lehamlikh al-kal-yisra'el

Howbeit the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever; for He hath chosen Judah to be prince, and in the house of Judah, the house of my father, and among the sons of my father He took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel;

⁵וּמִכָּ֨ל־בָּנַ֔י כִּ֚י רַבִּ֣ים בָּנִ֔ים נָ֥תַן לִ֖י יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּבְחַר֙ בִּשְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בְנִ֔י לָשֶׁ֗בֶת עַל־כִּסֵּ֛א מַלְכ֥וּת יְהוָ֖ה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

umikkal-banay ki rabbim banim natan li ADONAI vayyivchar bishlomo veni lashevet al-kisse malkhut ADONAI al-yisra'el

and of all my sons—for the LORD hath given me many sons—He hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.

⁶וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לִ֔י שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בִנְךָ֔ הֽוּא־יִבְנֶ֥ה בֵיתִ֖י וַחֲצֵרוֹתָ֑י כִּי־בָחַ֨רְתִּי ב֥וֹ לִי֙ לְבֵ֔ן וַאֲנִ֖י אֶֽהְיֶה־לּ֥וֹ לְאָֽב׃

vayyomer li shelomo vinkha hu-yivne veti vachatzerotay ki-vacharti vo li leven va'ani ehye-lo le'av

And He said unto me: Solomon thy son, he shall build My house and My courts; for I have chosen him to be to Me for a son, and I will be to him for a father.

⁷וַהֲכִינוֹתִ֥י אֶת־מַלְכוּת֖וֹ עַד־לְעוֹלָ֑ם אִם־יֶחֱזַ֗ק לַעֲשׂ֛וֹת מִצְוֺתַ֥י וּמִשְׁפָּטַ֖י כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

vahakhinoti et-malkhuto ad-le'olam im-yechezak la'asot mitzvotay umishpatay kayyom hazze

And I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do My commandments and Mine ordinances, as at this day.

⁸וְ֠עַתָּה לְעֵינֵ֨י כָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל קְהַל־יְהוָה֙ וּבְאָזְנֵ֣י אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ שִׁמְר֣וּ וְדִרְשׁ֔וּ כָּל־מִצְוֺ֖ת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם לְמַ֤עַן תִּֽירְשׁוּ֙ אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַטּוֹבָ֔ה וְהִנְחַלְתֶּ֛ם לִבְנֵיכֶ֥ם אַחֲרֵיכֶ֖ם עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃

ve'atta le'ene khal-yisra'el kehal-ADONAI uve'azne elohenu shimru vedirshu kal-mitzvot ADONAI elohekhem lema'an tirshu et-ha'aretz hattova vehinchaltem livnekhem acharekhem ad-olam

Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the congregation of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God; that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you for ever.

⁹וְאַתָּ֣ה שְׁלֹמֹֽה־בְנִ֡י דַּע֩ אֶת־אֱלֹהֵ֨י אָבִ֜יךָ וְעָבְדֵ֗הוּ בְּלֵ֤ב שָׁלֵם֙ וּבְנֶ֣פֶשׁ חֲפֵצָ֔ה כִּ֤י כָל־לְבָבוֹת֙ דּוֹרֵ֣שׁ יְהוָ֔ה וְכָל־יֵ֥צֶר מַחֲשָׁב֖וֹת מֵבִ֑ין אִֽם־תִּדְרְשֶׁ֨נּוּ֙ יִמָּ֣צֵא לָ֔ךְ וְאִם־תַּֽעַזְבֶ֖נּוּ יַזְנִיחֲךָ֥ לָעַֽד׃

ve'atta shelomo-veni da' et-elohe avikha ve'avdehu belev shalem uvenefesh chafetza ki khal-levavot doresh ADONAI vekhal-yetzer machashavot mevin im-tidreshennu yimmatze lakh ve'im-ta'azvennu yaznichakha la'ad

And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve Him with a whole heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts; if thou seek Him, He will be found of thee; but if thou forsake Him, He will cast thee off for ever.

¹⁰רְאֵ֣ה ׀ עַתָּ֗ה כִּֽי־יְהוָ֛ה בָּ֧חַר בְּךָ֛ לִבְנֽוֹת־בַּ֥יִת לַמִּקְדָּ֖שׁ חֲזַ֥ק וַעֲשֵֽׂה׃

re'e atta ki-ADONAI bachar bekha livnot-bayit lammikdash chazak va'ase

Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong, and do it.’

¹¹וַיִּתֵּ֣ן דָּוִ֣יד לִשְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בְנ֡וֹ אֶת־תַּבְנִ֣ית הָאוּלָם֩ וְֽאֶת־בָּ֨תָּ֜יו וְגַנְזַכָּ֧יו וַעֲלִיֹּתָ֛יו וַחֲדָרָ֥יו הַפְּנִימִ֖ים וּבֵ֥ית הַכַּפֹּֽרֶת׃

vayyitten david lishlomo veno et-tavnit haulam ve'et-battav veganzakkav va'aliyyotav vachadarav happenimim uvet hakkapporet

Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch [of the temple], and of the houses thereof, and of the treasuries thereof, and of the upper rooms thereof, and of the inner chambers thereof, and of the place of the ark-cover;

¹²וְתַבְנִ֗ית כֹּל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָיָ֤ה בָר֨וּחַ֙ עִמּ֔וֹ לְחַצְר֧וֹת בֵּית־יְהוָ֛ה וּלְכָל־הַלְּשָׁכ֖וֹת סָבִ֑יב לְאֹֽצְרוֹת֙ בֵּ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וּלְאֹצְר֖וֹת הַקֳּדָשִֽׁים׃

vetavnit kol asher haya varuach immo lechatzrot bet-ADONAI ulekhal-halleshakhot saviv le'otzrot bet ha'elohim ule'otzrot hakkodashim

and the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, for the courts of the house of the LORD, and for all the chambers round about, for the treasuries of the house of God, and for the treasuries of the hallowed things;

¹³וּֽלְמַחְלְקוֹת֙ הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים וְהַלְוִיִּ֔ם וּֽלְכָל־מְלֶ֖אכֶת עֲבוֹדַ֣ת בֵּית־יְהוָ֑ה וּֽלְכָל־כְּלֵ֖י עֲבוֹדַ֥ת בֵּית־יְהוָֽה׃

ulemachlekot hakkohanim vehalviyyim ulekhal-melekhet avodat bet-ADONAI ulekhal-kele avodat bet-ADONAI

also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for all the vessels of service in the house of the LORD:

¹⁴לַזָּהָ֤ב בַּמִּשְׁקָל֙ לַזָּהָ֔ב לְכָל־כְּלֵ֖י עֲבוֹדָ֣ה וַעֲבוֹדָ֑ה לְכֹ֨ל כְּלֵ֤י הַכֶּ֨סֶף֙ בְּמִשְׁקָ֔ל לְכָל־כְּלֵ֖י עֲבוֹדָ֥ה וַעֲבוֹדָֽה׃

lazzahav bammishkal lazzahav lekhal-kele avoda va'avoda lekhol kele hakkesef bemishkal lekhal-kele avoda va'avoda

of gold by weight for the vessels of gold, for all vessels of every kind of service; of silver for all the vessels of silver by weight, for all vessels of every kind of service;

¹⁵וּמִשְׁקָ֞ל לִמְנֹר֣וֹת הַזָּהָ֗ב וְנֵרֹֽתֵיהֶם֙ זָהָ֔ב בְּמִשְׁקַל־מְנוֹרָ֥ה וּמְנוֹרָ֖ה וְנֵרֹתֶ֑יהָ וְלִמְנֹר֨וֹת הַכֶּ֤סֶף בְּמִשְׁקָל֙ לִמְנוֹרָ֣ה וְנֵרֹתֶ֔יהָ כַּעֲבוֹדַ֖ת מְנוֹרָ֥ה וּמְנוֹרָֽה׃

umishkal limnorot hazzahav venerotehem zahav bemishkal-menora umenora veneroteha velimnorot hakkesef bemishkal limnora veneroteha ka'avodat menora umenora

by weight also for the candlesticks of gold, and for the lamps thereof, of gold, by weight for every candlestick and for the lamps thereof; and for the candlesticks of silver, silver by weight for every candlestick and for the lamps thereof, according to the use of every candlestick;

¹⁶וְאֶת־הַזָּהָ֥ב מִשְׁקָ֛ל לְשֻׁלְחֲנ֥וֹת הַֽמַּעֲרֶ֖כֶת לְשֻׁלְחַ֣ן וְשֻׁלְחָ֑ן וְכֶ֖סֶף לְשֻׁלְחֲנ֥וֹת הַכָּֽסֶף׃

ve'et-hazzahav mishkal leshulchanot hamma'arekhet leshulchan veshulchan vekhesef leshulchanot hakkasef

and the gold by weight for the tables of showbread, for every table; and silver for the tables of silver;

¹⁷וְהַמִּזְלָג֧וֹת וְהַמִּזְרָק֛וֹת וְהַקְּשָׂוֺ֖ת זָהָ֣ב טָה֑וֹר וְלִכְפוֹרֵ֨י הַזָּהָ֤ב בְּמִשְׁקָל֙ לִכְפ֣וֹר וּכְפ֔וֹר וְלִכְפוֹרֵ֥י הַכֶּ֛סֶף בְּמִשְׁקָ֖ל לִכְפ֥וֹר וּכְפֽוֹר׃

vehammizlagot vehammizrakot vehakkesavot zahav tahor velikhfore hazzahav bemishkal likhfor ukhefor velikhfore hakkesef bemishkal likhfor ukhefor

and the flesh-hooks, and the basins, and the jars, of pure gold; and for the golden bowls by weight for every bowl; and for the silver bowls by weight for every bowl;

¹⁸וּלְמִזְבַּ֧ח הַקְּטֹ֛רֶת זָהָ֥ב מְזֻקָּ֖ק בַּמִּשְׁקָ֑ל וּלְתַבְנִ֣ית הַמֶּרְכָּבָ֗ה הַכְּרֻבִ֤ים זָהָב֙ לְפֹ֣רְשִׂ֔ים וְסֹכְכִ֖ים עַל־אֲר֥וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָֽה׃

ulemizbach hakketoret zahav mezukkak bammishkal uletavnit hammerkava hakkeruvim zahav leforsim vesokhkhim al-aron berit-ADONAI

and for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot, even the cherubim, that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

¹⁹הַכֹּ֥ל בִּכְתָ֛ב מִיַּ֥ד יְהוָ֖ה עָלַ֣י הִשְׂכִּ֑יל כֹּ֖ל מַלְאֲכ֥וֹת הַתַּבְנִֽית׃

hakkol bikhtav miyyad ADONAI alay hiskil kol mal'akhot hattavnit

’All this [do I give thee] in writing, as the LORD hath made me wise by His hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.’

²⁰וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜יד לִשְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בְנ֗וֹ חֲזַ֤ק וֶאֱמַץ֙ וַעֲשֵׂ֔ה אַל־תִּירָ֖א וְאַל־תֵּחָ֑ת כִּי֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהִ֤ים אֱלֹהַי֙ עִמָּ֔ךְ לֹ֤א יַרְפְּךָ֙ וְלֹ֣א יַֽעַזְבֶ֔ךָּ עַד־לִכְל֕וֹת כָּל־מְלֶ֖אכֶת עֲבוֹדַ֥ת בֵּית־יְהוָֽה׃

vayyomer david lishlomo veno chazak ve'ematz va'ase al-tira ve'al-techat ki ADONAI elohim elohay immakh lo yarpekha velo ya'azvekka ad-likhlot kal-melekhet avodat bet-ADONAI

And David said to Solomon his son: ‘Be strong and of good courage, and do it; fear not, nor be dismayed; for the LORD God, even my God, is with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD be finished.

²¹וְהִנֵּ֗ה מַחְלְקוֹת֙ הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים וְהַלְוִיִּ֔ם לְכָל־עֲבוֹדַ֖ת בֵּ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְעִמְּךָ֙ בְכָל־מְלָאכָ֜ה לְכָל־נָדִ֤יב בַּֽחָכְמָה֙ לְכָל־עֲבוֹדָ֔ה וְהַשָּׂרִ֥ים וְכָל־הָעָ֖ם לְכָל־דְּבָרֶֽיךָ׃

vehinne machlekot hakkohanim vehalviyyim lekhal-avodat bet ha'elohim ve'immekha vekhal-melakha lekhal-nadiv bachakhma lekhal-avoda vehassarim vekhal-ha'am lekhal-devarekha

And, behold, there are the courses of the priests and the Levites, for all the service of the house of God; and there shall be with thee in all manner of work every willing man that hath skill, for any manner of service; also the captains and all the people will be wholly at thy commandment.’

²Then David the king stood up on his feet and said, “Hear me, my brothers and my people! As for me, it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the LORD’s covenant, and for the footstool of our God; and I had prepared for the building.

³But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’

⁴However the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever. For he has chosen Judah to be prince; and in the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel.

⁵Of all my sons (for the LORD has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the LORD’s kingdom over Israel.

⁶He said to me, ‘Solomon, your son, shall build my house and my courts; for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

⁷I will establish his kingdom forever if he continues to do my commandments and my ordinances, as it is today.’

⁸Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the LORD’s assembly, and in the audience of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God, that you may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you forever.

⁹You, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

¹⁰Take heed now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong, and do it.”

¹¹Then David gave to Solomon his son the plans for the porch of the temple, for its houses, for its treasuries, for its upper rooms, for its inner rooms, for the place of the mercy seat;

¹²and the plans of all that he had by the Spirit, for the courts of the LORD’s house, for all the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries of God’s house, and for the treasuries of the dedicated things;

¹³also for the divisions of the priests and the Levites, for all the work of the service of the LORD’s house, and for all the vessels of service in the LORD’s house—

¹⁴of gold by weight for the gold for all vessels of every kind of service, for all the vessels of silver by weight, for all vessels of every kind of service;

¹⁵by weight also for the lamp stands of gold, and for its lamps, of gold, by weight for every lamp stand and for its lamps; and for the lamp stands of silver, by weight for every lamp stand and for its lamps, according to the use of every lamp stand;

¹⁶and the gold by weight for the tables of show bread, for every table; and silver for the tables of silver;

¹⁷and the forks, the basins, and the cups, of pure gold; and for the golden bowls by weight for every bowl; and for the silver bowls by weight for every bowl;

¹⁸and for the altar of incense, refined gold by weight; and gold for the plans for the chariot, and the cherubim that spread out and cover the ark of the LORD’s covenant.

¹⁹“All this”, David said, “I have been made to understand in writing from the LORD’s hand, even all the works of this pattern.”

²⁰David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do it. Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD God, even my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of the LORD’s house is finished.

²¹Behold, there are the divisions of the priests and the Levites for all the service of God’s house. Every willing man who has skill for any kind of service shall be with you in all kinds of work. Also the captains and all the people will be entirely at your command.”
