Leviticus 11 וַיִּקְרָא

¹וַיְדַבֵּ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה וְאֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֖ן לֵאמֹ֥ר אֲלֵהֶֽם׃

vaydabber ADONAI el-moshe ve'el-aharon lemor alehem

And the LORD spoke unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them:

²דַּבְּר֛וּ אֶל־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר זֹ֤את הַֽחַיָּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תֹּאכְל֔וּ מִכָּל־הַבְּהֵמָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

dabberu el-bene yisra'el lemor zot hachayya asher tokhlu mikkal-habbehema asher al-ha'aretz

Speak unto the children of Israel, saying: These are the living things which ye may eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.

³כֹּ֣ל ׀ מַפְרֶ֣סֶת פַּרְסָ֗ה וְשֹׁסַ֤עַת שֶׁ֨סַע֙ פְּרָסֹ֔ת מַעֲלַ֥ת גֵּרָ֖ה בַּבְּהֵמָ֑ה אֹתָ֖הּ תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃

kol mafreset parsa veshosa'at shesa' perasot ma'alat gera babbehema otah tokhelu

Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is wholly cloven-footed, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that may ye eat.

⁴אַ֤ךְ אֶת־זֶה֙ לֹ֣א תֹֽאכְל֔וּ מִֽמַּעֲלֵי֙ הַגֵּרָ֔ה וּמִמַּפְרִיסֵ֖י הַפַּרְסָ֑ה אֶֽת־הַ֠גָּמָל כִּֽי־מַעֲלֵ֨ה גֵרָ֜ה ה֗וּא וּפַרְסָה֙ אֵינֶ֣נּוּ מַפְרִ֔יס טָמֵ֥א ה֖וּא לָכֶֽם׃

akh et-ze lo tokhlu mimma'ale haggera umimmafrise happarsa et-haggamal ki-ma'ale gera hu ufarsa enennu mafris tame hu lakhem

Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that only chew the cud, or of them that only part the hoof: the camel, because he cheweth the cud but parteth not the hoof, he is unclean unto you.

⁵וְאֶת־הַשָּׁפָ֗ן כִּֽי־מַעֲלֵ֤ה גֵרָה֙ ה֔וּא וּפַרְסָ֖ה לֹ֣א יַפְרִ֑יס טָמֵ֥א ה֖וּא לָכֶֽם׃

ve'et-hashafan ki-ma'ale gera hu ufarsa lo yafris tame hu lakhem

And the rock-badger, because he cheweth the cud but parteth not the hoof, he is unclean unto you.

⁶וְאֶת־הָאַרְנֶ֗בֶת כִּֽי־מַעֲלַ֤ת גֵּרָה֙ הִ֔וא וּפַרְסָ֖ה לֹ֣א הִפְרִ֑יסָה טְמֵאָ֥ה הִ֖וא לָכֶֽם׃

ve'et-ha'arnevet ki-ma'alat gera hiv ufarsa lo hifrisa teme'a hiv lakhem

And the hare, because she cheweth the cud but parteth not the hoof, she is unclean unto you.

⁷וְאֶת־הַ֠חֲזִיר כִּֽי־מַפְרִ֨יס פַּרְסָ֜ה ה֗וּא וְשֹׁסַ֥ע שֶׁ֨סַע֙ פַּרְסָ֔ה וְה֖וּא גֵּרָ֣ה לֹֽא־יִגָּ֑ר טָמֵ֥א ה֖וּא לָכֶֽם׃

ve'et-hachazir ki-mafris parsa hu veshosa' shesa' parsa vehu gera lo-yiggar tame hu lakhem

And the swine, because he parteth the hoof, and is cloven-footed, but cheweth not the cud, he is unclean unto you.

⁸מִבְּשָׂרָם֙ לֹ֣א תֹאכֵ֔לוּ וּבְנִבְלָתָ֖ם לֹ֣א תִגָּ֑עוּ טְמֵאִ֥ים הֵ֖ם לָכֶֽם׃

mibbesaram lo tokhelu uvenivlatam lo tigga'u teme'im hem lakhem

Of their flesh ye shall not eat, and their carcasses ye shall not touch; they are unclean unto you.

⁹אֶת־זֶה֙ תֹּֽאכְל֔וּ מִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּמָּ֑יִם כֹּ֣ל אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ֩ סְנַפִּ֨יר וְקַשְׂקֶ֜שֶׂת בַּמַּ֗יִם בַּיַּמִּ֛ים וּבַנְּחָלִ֖ים אֹתָ֥ם תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃

et-ze tokhlu mikkol asher bammayim kol asher-lo senappir vekaskeset bammayim bayyammim uvannechalim otam tokhelu

These may ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them may ye eat.

¹⁰וְכֹל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר אֵֽין־ל֜וֹ סְנַפִּ֣יר וְקַשְׂקֶ֗שֶׂת בַּיַּמִּים֙ וּבַנְּחָלִ֔ים מִכֹּל֙ שֶׁ֣רֶץ הַמַּ֔יִם וּמִכֹּ֛ל נֶ֥פֶשׁ הַחַיָּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּמָּ֑יִם שֶׁ֥קֶץ הֵ֖ם לָכֶֽם׃

vekhol asher en-lo senappir vekaskeset bayyammim uvannechalim mikkol sheretz hammayim umikkol nefesh hachayya asher bammayim sheketz hem lakhem

And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that swarm in the waters, and of all the living creatures that are in the waters, they are a detestable thing unto you,

¹¹וְשֶׁ֖קֶץ יִהְי֣וּ לָכֶ֑ם מִבְּשָׂרָם֙ לֹ֣א תֹאכֵ֔לוּ וְאֶת־נִבְלָתָ֖ם תְּשַׁקֵּֽצוּ׃

vesheketz yihyu lakhem mibbesaram lo tokhelu ve'et-nivlatam teshakketzu

and they shall be a detestable thing unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, and their carcasses ye shall have in detestation.

¹²כֹּ֣ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֵֽין־ל֛וֹ סְנַפִּ֥יר וְקַשְׂקֶ֖שֶׂת בַּמָּ֑יִם שֶׁ֥קֶץ ה֖וּא לָכֶֽם׃

kol asher en-lo senappir vekaskeset bammayim sheketz hu lakhem

Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that is a detestable thing unto you.

¹³וְאֶת־אֵ֨לֶּה֙ תְּשַׁקְּצ֣וּ מִן־הָע֔וֹף לֹ֥א יֵאָכְל֖וּ שֶׁ֣קֶץ הֵ֑ם אֶת־הַנֶּ֨שֶׁר֙ וְאֶת־הַפֶּ֔רֶס וְאֵ֖ת הָעָזְנִיָּֽה׃

ve'et-elle teshakketzu min-ha'of lo ye'akhlu sheketz hem et-hannesher ve'et-happeres ve'et ha'azniyya

And these ye shall have in detestation among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are a detestable thing: the great vulture, and the bearded vulture, and the ospray;

¹⁴וְאֶת־הַ֨דָּאָ֔ה וְאֶת־הָאַיָּ֖ה לְמִינָֽהּ׃

ve'et-hadda'a ve'et-ha'ayya leminah

and the kite, and the falcon after its kinds;

¹⁵אֵ֥ת כָּל־עֹרֵ֖ב לְמִינֽוֹ׃

et kal-orev lemino

every raven after its kinds;

¹⁶וְאֵת֙ בַּ֣ת הַֽיַּעֲנָ֔ה וְאֶת־הַתַּחְמָ֖ס וְאֶת־הַשָּׁ֑חַף וְאֶת־הַנֵּ֖ץ לְמִינֵֽהוּ׃

ve'et bat hayya'ana ve'et-hattachmas ve'et-hashachaf ve'et-hannetz leminehu

and the ostrich, and the night-hawk, and the sea-mew, and the hawk after its kinds;

¹⁷וְאֶת־הַכּ֥וֹס וְאֶת־הַשָּׁלָ֖ךְ וְאֶת־הַיַּנְשֽׁוּף׃

ve'et-hakkos ve'et-hashalakh ve'et-hayyanshuf

and the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl;

¹⁸וְאֶת־הַתִּנְשֶׁ֥מֶת וְאֶת־הַקָּאָ֖ת וְאֶת־הָרָחָֽם׃

ve'et-hattinshemet ve'et-hakka'at ve'et-haracham

and the horned owl, and the pelican, and the carrion-vulture;

¹⁹וְאֵת֙ הַחֲסִידָ֔ה הָאֲנָפָ֖ה לְמִינָ֑הּ וְאֶת־הַדּוּכִיפַ֖ת וְאֶת־הָעֲטַלֵּֽף׃

ve'et hachasida ha'anafa leminah ve'et-haddukhifat ve'et-ha'atallef

and the stork, and the heron after its kinds, and the hoopoe, and the bat.

²⁰כֹּ֚ל שֶׁ֣רֶץ הָע֔וֹף הַהֹלֵ֖ךְ עַל־אַרְבַּ֑ע שֶׁ֥קֶץ ה֖וּא לָכֶֽם׃

kol sheretz ha'of haholekh al-arba' sheketz hu lakhem

All winged swarming things that go upon all fours are a detestable thing unto you.

²¹אַ֤ךְ אֶת־זֶה֙ תֹּֽאכְל֔וּ מִכֹּל֙ שֶׁ֣רֶץ הָע֔וֹף הַהֹלֵ֖ךְ עַל־אַרְבַּ֑ע אֲשֶׁר־לא [ל֤וֹ] כְרָעַ֨יִם֙ מִמַּ֣עַל לְרַגְלָ֔יו לְנַתֵּ֥ר בָּהֵ֖ן עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

akh et-ze tokhlu mikkol sheretz ha'of haholekh al-arba' asher-lo khera'ayim mimma'al leraglav lenatter bahen al-ha'aretz

Yet these may ye eat of all winged swarming things that go upon all fours, which have jointed legs above their feet, wherewith to leap upon the earth;

²²אֶת־אֵ֤לֶּה מֵהֶם֙ תֹּאכֵ֔לוּ אֶת־הָֽאַרְבֶּ֣ה לְמִינ֔וֹ וְאֶת־הַסָּלְעָ֖ם לְמִינֵ֑הוּ וְאֶת־הַחַרְגֹּ֣ל לְמִינֵ֔הוּ וְאֶת־הֶחָגָ֖ב לְמִינֵֽהוּ׃

et-elle mehem tokhelu et-ha'arbe lemino ve'et-hassal'am leminehu ve'et-hachargol leminehu ve'et-hechagav leminehu

even these of them ye may eat: the locust after its kinds, and the bald locust after its kinds, and the cricket after its kinds, and the grasshopper after its kinds.

²³וְכֹל֙ שֶׁ֣רֶץ הָע֔וֹף אֲשֶׁר־ל֖וֹ אַרְבַּ֣ע רַגְלָ֑יִם שֶׁ֥קֶץ ה֖וּא לָכֶֽם׃

vekhol sheretz ha'of asher-lo arba' raglayim sheketz hu lakhem

But all winged swarming things, which have four feet, are a detestable thing unto you.

²⁴וּלְאֵ֖לֶּה תִּטַּמָּ֑אוּ כָּל־הַנֹּגֵ֥עַ בְּנִבְלָתָ֖ם יִטְמָ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

ule'elle tittammau kal-hannogea benivlatam yitma ad-ha'arev

And by these ye shall become unclean; whosoever toucheth the carcass of them shall be unclean until even.

²⁵וְכָל־הַנֹּשֵׂ֖א מִנִּבְלָתָ֑ם יְכַבֵּ֥ס בְּגָדָ֖יו וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

vekhal-hannose minnivlatam yekhabbes begadav vetame ad-ha'arev

And whosoever beareth aught of the carcass of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even.

²⁶לְֽכָל־הַבְּהֵמָ֡ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִוא֩ מַפְרֶ֨סֶת פַּרְסָ֜ה וְשֶׁ֣סַע ׀ אֵינֶ֣נָּה שֹׁסַ֗עַת וְגֵרָה֙ אֵינֶ֣נָּה מַעֲלָ֔ה טְמֵאִ֥ים הֵ֖ם לָכֶ֑ם כָּל־הַנֹּגֵ֥עַ בָּהֶ֖ם יִטְמָֽא׃

lekhal-habbehema asher hiv mafreset parsa veshesa' enenna shosa'at vegera enenna ma'ala teme'im hem lakhem kal-hannogea bahem yitma

Every beast which parteth the hoof, but is not cloven footed, nor cheweth the cud, is unclean unto you; every one that to toucheth them shall be unclean.

²⁷וְכֹ֣ל ׀ הוֹלֵ֣ךְ עַל־כַּפָּ֗יו בְּכָל־הַֽחַיָּה֙ הַהֹלֶ֣כֶת עַל־אַרְבַּ֔ע טְמֵאִ֥ים הֵ֖ם לָכֶ֑ם כָּל־הַנֹּגֵ֥עַ בְּנִבְלָתָ֖ם יִטְמָ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

vekhol holekh al-kappav bekhal-hachayya haholekhet al-arba' teme'im hem lakhem kal-hannogea benivlatam yitma ad-ha'arev

And whatsoever goeth upon its paws, among all beasts that go on all fours, they are unclean unto you; whoso toucheth their carcass shall be unclean until the even.

²⁸וְהַנֹּשֵׂא֙ אֶת־נִבְלָתָ֔ם יְכַבֵּ֥ס בְּגָדָ֖יו וְטָמֵ֣א עַד־הָעָ֑רֶב טְמֵאִ֥ים הֵ֖מָּה לָכֶֽם׃

vehannose et-nivlatam yekhabbes begadav vetame ad-ha'arev teme'im hemma lakhem

And he that beareth the carcass of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even; they are unclean unto you.

²⁹וְזֶ֤ה לָכֶם֙ הַטָּמֵ֔א בַּשֶּׁ֖רֶץ הַשֹּׁרֵ֣ץ עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ הַחֹ֥לֶד וְהָעַכְבָּ֖ר וְהַצָּ֥ב לְמִינֵֽהוּ׃

veze lakhem hattame basheretz hashoretz al-ha'aretz hacholed veha'akhbar vehatzav leminehu

And these are they which are unclean unto you among the swarming things that swarm upon the earth: the weasel, and the mouse, and the great lizard after its kinds,

³⁰וְהָאֲנָקָ֥ה וְהַכֹּ֖חַ וְהַלְּטָאָ֑ה וְהַחֹ֖מֶט וְהַתִּנְשָֽׁמֶת׃

veha'anaka vehakkoach vehalleta'a vehachomet vehattinshamet

and the gecko, and the land-crocodile, and the lizard, and the sand-lizard, and the chameleon.

³¹אֵ֛לֶּה הַטְּמֵאִ֥ים לָכֶ֖ם בְּכָל־הַשָּׁ֑רֶץ כָּל־הַנֹּגֵ֧עַ בָּהֶ֛ם בְּמֹתָ֖ם יִטְמָ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

elle hatteme'im lakhem bekhal-hasharetz kal-hannogea bahem bemotam yitma ad-ha'arev

These are they which are unclean to you among all that swarm; whosoever doth touch them, when they are dead, shall be unclean until the even.

³²וְכֹ֣ל אֲשֶׁר־יִפֹּל־עָלָיו֩ מֵהֶ֨ם ׀ בְּמֹתָ֜ם יִטְמָ֗א מִכָּל־כְּלִי־עֵץ֙ א֣וֹ בֶ֤גֶד אוֹ־עוֹר֙ א֣וֹ שָׂ֔ק כָּל־כְּלִ֕י אֲשֶׁר־יֵעָשֶׂ֥ה מְלָאכָ֖ה בָּהֶ֑ם בַּמַּ֧יִם יוּבָ֛א וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעֶ֖רֶב וְטָהֵֽר׃

vekhol asher-yippol-alav mehem bemotam yitma mikkal-keli-etz o veged o-or o sak kal-keli asher-ye'ase melakha bahem bammayim yuva vetame ad-ha'erev vetaher

And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, doth fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherewith any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; then shall it be clean.

³³וְכָל־כְּלִי־חֶ֔רֶשׂ אֲשֶׁר־יִפֹּ֥ל מֵהֶ֖ם אֶל־תּוֹכ֑וֹ כֹּ֣ל אֲשֶׁ֧ר בְּתוֹכ֛וֹ יִטְמָ֖א וְאֹת֥וֹ תִשְׁבֹּֽרוּ׃

vekhal-keli-cheres asher-yippol mehem el-tokho kol asher betokho yitma ve'oto tishboru

And every earthen vessel whereinto any of them falleth, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean, and it ye shall break.

³⁴מִכָּל־הָאֹ֜כֶל אֲשֶׁ֣ר יֵאָכֵ֗ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָב֥וֹא עָלָ֛יו מַ֖יִם יִטְמָ֑א וְכָל־מַשְׁקֶה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִשָּׁתֶ֔ה בְּכָל־כְּלִ֖י יִטְמָֽא׃

mikkal-ha'okhel asher ye'akhel asher yavo alav mayim yitma vekhal-mashke asher yishate bekhal-keli yitma

All food therein which may be eaten, that on which water cometh, shall be unclean; and all drink in every such vessel that may be drunk shall be unclean.

³⁵וְ֠כֹל אֲשֶׁר־יִפֹּ֨ל מִנִּבְלָתָ֥ם ׀ עָלָיו֮ יִטְמָא֒ תַּנּ֧וּר וְכִירַ֛יִם יֻתָּ֖ץ טְמֵאִ֣ים הֵ֑ם וּטְמֵאִ֖ים יִהְי֥וּ לָכֶֽם׃

vekhol asher-yippol minnivlatam alav yitma tannur vekhirayim yuttatz teme'im hem uteme'im yihyu lakhem

And every thing whereupon any part of their carcass falleth shall be unclean; whether oven, or range for pots, it shall be broken in pieces; they are unclean, and shall be unclean unto you.

³⁶אַ֣ךְ מַעְיָ֥ן וּב֛וֹר מִקְוֵה־מַ֖יִם יִהְיֶ֣ה טָה֑וֹר וְנֹגֵ֥עַ בְּנִבְלָתָ֖ם יִטְמָֽא׃

akh ma'yan uvor mikve-mayim yihye tahor venogea benivlatam yitma

Nevertheless a fountain or a cistern wherein is a gathering of water shall be clean; but he who toucheth their carcass shall be unclean.

³⁷וְכִ֤י יִפֹּל֙ מִנִּבְלָתָ֔ם עַל־כָּל־זֶ֥רַע זֵר֖וּעַ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִזָּרֵ֑עַ טָה֖וֹר הֽוּא׃

vekhi yippol minnivlatam al-kal-zera' zerua asher yizzarea tahor hu

And if aught of their carcass fall upon any sowing seed which is to be sown, it is clean.

³⁸וְכִ֤י יֻתַּן־מַ֨יִם֙ עַל־זֶ֔רַע וְנָפַ֥ל מִנִּבְלָתָ֖ם עָלָ֑יו טָמֵ֥א ה֖וּא לָכֶֽם׃

vekhi yuttan-mayim al-zera' venafal minnivlatam alav tame hu lakhem

But if water be put upon the seed, and aught of their carcass fall thereon, it is unclean unto you.

³⁹וְכִ֤י יָמוּת֙ מִן־הַבְּהֵמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־הִ֥יא לָכֶ֖ם לְאָכְלָ֑ה הַנֹּגֵ֥עַ בְּנִבְלָתָ֖הּ יִטְמָ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

vekhi yamut min-habbehema asher-hi lakhem le'akhla hannogea benivlatah yitma ad-ha'arev

And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die, he that toucheth the carcass thereof shall be unclean until the even.

⁴⁰וְהָֽאֹכֵל֙ מִנִּבְלָתָ֔הּ יְכַבֵּ֥ס בְּגָדָ֖יו וְטָמֵ֣א עַד־הָעָ֑רֶב וְהַנֹּשֵׂא֙ אֶת־נִבְלָתָ֔הּ יְכַבֵּ֥ס בְּגָדָ֖יו וְטָמֵ֥א עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃

veha'okhel minnivlatah yekhabbes begadav vetame ad-ha'arev vehannose et-nivlatah yekhabbes begadav vetame ad-ha'arev

And he that eateth of the carcass of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even; he also that beareth the carcass of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even.

⁴¹וְכָל־הַשֶּׁ֖רֶץ הַשֹּׁרֵ֣ץ עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ שֶׁ֥קֶץ ה֖וּא לֹ֥א יֵאָכֵֽל׃

vekhal-hasheretz hashoretz al-ha'aretz sheketz hu lo ye'akhel

And every swarming thing that swarmeth upon the earth is a detestable thing; it shall not be eaten.

⁴²כֹּל֩ הוֹלֵ֨ךְ עַל־גָּח֜וֹן וְכֹ֣ל ׀ הוֹלֵ֣ךְ עַל־אַרְבַּ֗ע עַ֚ד כָּל־מַרְבֵּ֣ה רַגְלַ֔יִם לְכָל־הַשֶּׁ֖רֶץ הַשֹּׁרֵ֣ץ עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ לֹ֥א תֹאכְל֖וּם כִּי־שֶׁ֥קֶץ הֵֽם׃

kol holekh al-gachon vekhol holekh al-arba' ad kal-marbe raglayim lekhal-hasheretz hashoretz al-ha'aretz lo tokhlum ki-sheketz hem

Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all fours, or whatsoever hath many feet, even all swarming things that swarm upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are a detestable thing.

⁴³אַל־תְּשַׁקְּצוּ֙ אֶת־נַפְשֹׁ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם בְּכָל־הַשֶּׁ֖רֶץ הַשֹּׁרֵ֑ץ וְלֹ֤א תִֽטַּמְּאוּ֙ בָּהֶ֔ם וְנִטְמֵתֶ֖ם בָּֽם׃

al-teshakketzu et-nafshotekhem bekhal-hasheretz hashoretz velo tittammeu bahem venitmetem bam

Ye shall not make yourselves detestable with any swarming thing that swarmeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby.

⁴⁴כִּ֣י אֲנִ֣י יְהוָה֮ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֒ וְהִתְקַדִּשְׁתֶּם֙ וִהְיִיתֶ֣ם קְדֹשִׁ֔ים כִּ֥י קָד֖וֹשׁ אָ֑נִי וְלֹ֤א תְטַמְּאוּ֙ אֶת־נַפְשֹׁ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם בְּכָל־הַשֶּׁ֖רֶץ הָרֹמֵ֥שׂ עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

For I am the LORD your God; sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy; for I am holy; neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of swarming thing that moveth upon the earth.

⁴⁵כִּ֣י ׀ אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֗ה הַֽמַּעֲלֶ֤ה אֶתְכֶם֙ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם לִהְיֹ֥ת לָכֶ֖ם לֵאלֹהִ֑ים וִהְיִיתֶ֣ם קְדֹשִׁ֔ים כִּ֥י קָד֖וֹשׁ אָֽנִי׃

ki ani ADONAI hamma'ale etkhem me'eretz mitzrayim lihyot lakhem lelohim vihyitem kedoshim ki kadosh ani

For I am the LORD that brought you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God; ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. .

⁴⁶זֹ֣את תּוֹרַ֤ת הַבְּהֵמָה֙ וְהָע֔וֹף וְכֹל֙ נֶ֣פֶשׁ הַֽחַיָּ֔ה הָרֹמֶ֖שֶׂת בַּמָּ֑יִם וּלְכָל־נֶ֖פֶשׁ הַשֹּׁרֶ֥צֶת עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

zot torat habbehema veha'of vekhol nefesh hachayya haromeset bammayim ulekhal-nefesh hashoretzet al-ha'aretz

This is the law of the beast, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that swarmeth upon the earth;

⁴⁷לְהַבְדִּ֕יל בֵּ֥ין הַטָּמֵ֖א וּבֵ֣ין הַטָּהֹ֑ר וּבֵ֤ין הַֽחַיָּה֙ הַֽנֶּאֱכֶ֔לֶת וּבֵין֙ הַֽחַיָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר לֹ֥א תֵאָכֵֽל׃

lehavdil ben hattame uven hattahor uven hachayya hanne'ekhelet uven hachayya asher lo te'akhel

to make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the living thing that may be eaten and the living thing that may not be eaten.

¹The LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying to them,

²“Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘These are the living things which you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth.

³Whatever parts the hoof, and is cloven-footed, and chews the cud among the animals, that you may eat.

⁴“‘Nevertheless these you shall not eat of those that chew the cud, or of those who part the hoof: the camel, because it chews the cud but doesn’t have a parted hoof, is unclean to you.

⁵The hyrax, because it chews the cud but doesn’t have a parted hoof, is unclean to you.

⁶The hare, because it chews the cud but doesn’t have a parted hoof, is unclean to you.

⁷The pig, because it has a split hoof, and is cloven-footed, but doesn’t chew the cud, is unclean to you.

⁸You shall not eat their meat. You shall not touch their carcasses. They are unclean to you.

⁹“‘You may eat of all these that are in the waters: whatever has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, that you may eat.

¹⁰All that don’t have fins and scales in the seas and rivers, all that move in the waters, and all the living creatures that are in the waters, they are an abomination to you,

¹¹and you shall detest them. You shall not eat of their meat, and you shall detest their carcasses.

¹²Whatever has no fins nor scales in the waters is an abomination to you.

¹³“‘You shall detest these among the birds; they shall not be eaten because they are an abomination: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture,

¹⁴the red kite, any kind of black kite,

¹⁵any kind of raven,

¹⁶the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk,

¹⁷the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl,

¹⁸the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey,

¹⁹the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe, and the bat.

²⁰“‘All flying insects that walk on all fours are an abomination to you.

²¹Yet you may eat these: of all winged creeping things that go on all fours, which have long, jointed legs for hopping on the earth.

²²Even of these you may eat: any kind of locust, any kind of katydid, any kind of cricket, and any kind of grasshopper.

²³But all winged creeping things which have four feet are an abomination to you.

²⁴“‘By these you will become unclean: whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening.

²⁵Whoever carries any part of their carcass shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening.

²⁶“‘Every animal which has a split hoof that isn’t completely divided, or doesn’t chew the cud, is unclean to you. Everyone who touches them shall be unclean.

²⁷Whatever goes on its paws, among all animals that go on all fours, they are unclean to you. Whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening.

²⁸He who carries their carcass shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening. They are unclean to you.

²⁹“‘These are they which are unclean to you among the creeping things that creep on the earth: the weasel, the rat, any kind of great lizard,

³⁰the gecko, and the monitor lizard, the wall lizard, the skink, and the chameleon.

³¹These are they which are unclean to you among all that creep. Whoever touches them when they are dead shall be unclean until the evening.

³²Anything they fall on when they are dead shall be unclean; whether it is any vessel of wood, or clothing, or skin, or sack, whatever vessel it is, with which any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the evening. Then it will be clean.

³³Every earthen vessel into which any of them falls and all that is in it shall be unclean. You shall break it.

³⁴All food which may be eaten which is soaked in water shall be unclean. All drink that may be drunk in every such vessel shall be unclean.

³⁵Everything whereupon part of their carcass falls shall be unclean; whether oven, or range for pots, it shall be broken in pieces. They are unclean, and shall be unclean to you.

³⁶Nevertheless a spring or a cistern in which water is gathered shall be clean, but that which touches their carcass shall be unclean.

³⁷If part of their carcass falls on any sowing seed which is to be sown, it is clean.

³⁸But if water is put on the seed, and part of their carcass falls on it, it is unclean to you.

³⁹“‘If any animal of which you may eat dies, he who touches its carcass shall be unclean until the evening.

⁴⁰He who eats of its carcass shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening. He also who carries its carcass shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening.

⁴¹“‘Every creeping thing that creeps on the earth is an abomination. It shall not be eaten.

⁴²Whatever goes on its belly, and whatever goes on all fours, or whatever has many feet, even all creeping things that creep on the earth, them you shall not eat; for they are an abomination.

⁴³You shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creeps. You shall not make yourselves unclean with them, that you should be defiled by them.

⁴⁴For I am the LORD your God. Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be holy; for I am holy. You shall not defile yourselves with any kind of creeping thing that moves on the earth.

⁴⁵For I am the LORD who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

⁴⁶“‘This is the law of the animal, and of the bird, and of every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps on the earth,
