Hosea 7 הוֹשֵׁעַ

¹כְּרָפְאִ֣י לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְנִגְלָ֞ה עֲוֺ֤ן אֶפְרַ֨יִם֙ וְרָע֣וֹת שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן כִּ֥י פָעֲל֖וּ שָׁ֑קֶר וְגַנָּ֣ב יָב֔וֹא פָּשַׁ֥ט גְּד֖וּד בַּחֽוּץ׃

keraf'i leyisra'el venigla avon efrayim vera'ot shomron ki fa'alu shaker vegannav yavo pashat gedud bachutz

When I would heal Israel, Then is the iniquity of Ephraim uncovered, And the wickedness of Samaria, For they commit falsehood; And the thief entereth in, And the troop of robbers maketh a raid without.

²וּבַל־יֹֽאמְרוּ֙ לִלְבָבָ֔ם כָּל־רָעָתָ֖ם זָכָ֑רְתִּי עַתָּה֙ סְבָב֣וּם מַֽעַלְלֵיהֶ֔ם נֶ֥גֶד פָּנַ֖י הָיֽוּ׃

uval-yomru lilvavam kal-ra'atam zakharti atta sevavum ma'allehem neged panay hayu

And let them not say to their heart— I remember all their wickedness; Now their own doings have beset them about, They are before My face.

³בְּרָעָתָ֖ם יְשַׂמְּחוּ־מֶ֑לֶךְ וּבְכַחֲשֵׁיהֶ֖ם שָׂרִֽים׃

bera'atam yesammechu-melekh uvekhachashehem sarim

They make the king glad with their wickedness, And the princes with their lies.

⁴כֻּלָּם֙ מְנָ֣אֲפִ֔ים כְּמ֣וֹ תַנּ֔וּר בֹּעֵ֖רָה מֵֽאֹפֶ֑ה יִשְׁבּ֣וֹת מֵעִ֔יר מִלּ֥וּשׁ בָּצֵ֖ק עַד־חֻמְצָתֽוֹ׃

kullam mena'afim kemo tannur bo'era me'ofe yishbot me'ir millush batzek ad-chumtzato

They are all adulterers, As an oven heated by the baker, Who ceaseth to stir From the kneading of the dough until it be leavened.

⁵י֣וֹם מַלְכֵּ֔נוּ הֶחֱל֥וּ שָׂרִ֖ים חֲמַ֣ת מִיָּ֑יִן מָשַׁ֥ךְ יָד֖וֹ אֶת־לֹצְצִֽים׃

yom malkenu hechelu sarim chamat miyyayin mashakh yado et-lotztzim

On the day of our king The princes make him sick with the heat of wine, He stretcheth out his hand with scorners.

⁶כִּֽי־קֵרְב֧וּ כַתַּנּ֛וּר לִבָּ֖ם בְּאָרְבָּ֑ם כָּל־הַלַּ֨יְלָה֙ יָשֵׁ֣ן אֹֽפֵהֶ֔ם בֹּ֕קֶר ה֥וּא בֹעֵ֖ר כְּאֵ֥שׁ לֶהָבָֽה׃

ki-kervu khattannur libbam be'arbam kal-hallayla yashen ofehem boker hu vo'er ke'esh lehava

For they have made ready their heart like an oven, while they lie in wait; Their baker sleepeth all the night, In the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.

⁷כֻּלָּ֤ם יֵחַ֨מּוּ֙ כַּתַּנּ֔וּר וְאָכְל֖וּ אֶת־שֹֽׁפְטֵיהֶ֑ם כָּל־מַלְכֵיהֶ֣ם נָפָ֔לוּ אֵין־קֹרֵ֥א בָהֶ֖ם אֵלָֽי׃

kullam yechammu kattannur ve'akhlu et-shoftehem kal-malkhehem nafalu en-kore vahem elay

They are all hot as an oven, And devour their judges; All their kings are fallen, There is none among them that calleth unto Me.

⁸אֶפְרַ֕יִם בָּעַמִּ֖ים ה֣וּא יִתְבּוֹלָ֑ל אֶפְרַ֛יִם הָיָ֥ה עֻגָ֖ה בְּלִ֥י הֲפוּכָֽה׃

efrayim ba'ammim hu yitbolal efrayim haya uga beli hafukha

Ephraim, he mixeth himself with the peoples; Ephraim is become a cake not turned.

⁹אָכְל֤וּ זָרִים֙ כֹּח֔וֹ וְה֖וּא לֹ֣א יָדָ֑ע גַּם־שֵׂיבָה֙ זָ֣רְקָה בּ֔וֹ וְה֖וּא לֹ֥א יָדָֽע׃

akhlu zarim kocho vehu lo yada' gam-seva zarka bo vehu lo yada'

Strangers have devoured his strength, And he knoweth it not; Yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, And he knoweth it not.

¹⁰וְעָנָ֥ה גְאֽוֹן־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּפָנָ֑יו וְלֹֽא־שָׁ֨בוּ֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶ֔ם וְלֹ֥א בִקְשֻׁ֖הוּ בְּכָל־זֹֽאת׃

ve'ana geon-yisra'el befanav velo-shavu el-ADONAI elohehem velo vikshuhu bekhal-zot

And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face; But they have not returned unto the LORD their God, Nor sought Him, for all this.

¹¹וַיְהִ֣י אֶפְרַ֔יִם כְּיוֹנָ֥ה פוֹתָ֖ה אֵ֣ין לֵ֑ב מִצְרַ֥יִם קָרָ֖אוּ אַשּׁ֥וּר הָלָֽכוּ׃

vayhi efrayim keyona fota en lev mitzrayim karau ashur halakhu

And Ephraim is become like a silly dove, without understanding; They call unto Egypt, they go to Assyria.

¹²כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר יֵלֵ֗כוּ אֶפְר֤וֹשׂ עֲלֵיהֶם֙ רִשְׁתִּ֔י כְּע֥וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם אֽוֹרִידֵ֑ם אַיְסִרֵ֕ם כְּשֵׁ֖מַע לַעֲדָתָֽם׃

ka'asher yelekhu efros alehem rishti ke'of hashamayim oridem aysirem keshema' la'adatam

Even as they go, I will spread My net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath been made to hear.

¹³א֤וֹי לָהֶם֙ כִּֽי־נָדְד֣וּ מִמֶּ֔נִּי שֹׁ֥ד לָהֶ֖ם כִּֽי־פָ֣שְׁעוּ בִ֑י וְאָנֹכִ֣י אֶפְדֵּ֔ם וְהֵ֕מָּה דִּבְּר֥וּ עָלַ֖י כְּזָבִֽים׃

oy lahem ki-naddu mimmenni shod lahem ki-fash'u vi ve'anokhi efdem vehemma dibberu alay kezavim

Woe unto them! for they have strayed from Me; Destruction unto them! for they have transgressed against Me; Shall I then redeem them, Seeing they have spoken lies against Me?

¹⁴וְלֹֽא־זָעֲק֤וּ אֵלַי֙ בְּלִבָּ֔ם כִּ֥י יְיֵלִ֖ילוּ עַל־מִשְׁכְּבוֹתָ֑ם עַל־דָּגָ֧ן וְתִיר֛וֹשׁ יִתְגּוֹרָ֖רוּ יָס֥וּרוּ בִֽי׃

velo-za'aku elay belibbam ki yeyelilu al-mishkevotam al-dagan vetirosh yitgoraru yasuru vi

And they have not cried unto Me with their heart, Though they wail upon their beds; They assemble themselves for corn and wine, they rebel against Me.

¹⁵וַאֲנִ֣י יִסַּ֔רְתִּי חִזַּ֖קְתִּי זְרֽוֹעֹתָ֑ם וְאֵלַ֖י יְחַשְּׁבוּ־רָֽע׃

va'ani yissarti chizzakti zero'otam ve'elay yechashevu-ra'

Though I have trained and strengthened their arms, Yet do they devise evil against Me.

¹⁶יָשׁ֣וּבוּ ׀ לֹ֣א עָ֗ל הָיוּ֙ כְּקֶ֣שֶׁת רְמִיָּ֔ה יִפְּל֥וּ בַחֶ֛רֶב שָׂרֵיהֶ֖ם מִזַּ֣עַם לְשׁוֹנָ֑ם ז֥וֹ לַעְגָּ֖ם בְּאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

yashuvu lo al hayu kekeshet remiyya yippelu vacherev sarehem mizza'am leshonam zo la'gam be'eretz mitzrayim

They return, but not upwards; They are become like a deceitful bow; Their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue; This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

²They don’t consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness. Now their own deeds have engulfed them. They are before my face.

³They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.

⁴They are all adulterers. They are burning like an oven that the baker stops stirring, from the kneading of the dough, until it is leavened.

⁵On the day of our king, the princes made themselves sick with the heat of wine. He joined his hand with mockers.

⁶For they have prepared their heart like an oven, while they lie in wait. Their anger smolders all night. In the morning it burns as a flaming fire.

⁷They are all hot as an oven, and devour their judges. All their kings have fallen. There is no one among them who calls to me.

⁸Ephraim mixes himself among the nations. Ephraim is a pancake not turned over.

⁹Strangers have devoured his strength, and he doesn’t realize it. Indeed, gray hairs are here and there on him, and he doesn’t realize it.

¹⁰The pride of Israel testifies to his face; yet they haven’t returned to the LORD their God, nor sought him, for all this.

¹¹“Ephraim is like an easily deceived dove, without understanding. They call to Egypt. They go to Assyria.

¹²When they go, I will spread my net on them. I will bring them down like the birds of the sky. I will chastise them, as their congregation has heard.

¹³Woe to them! For they have wandered from me. Destruction to them! For they have trespassed against me. Though I would redeem them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

¹⁴They haven’t cried to me with their heart, but they howl on their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me.

¹⁵Though I have taught and strengthened their arms, yet they plot evil against me.

¹⁶They return, but not to the Most High. They are like a faulty bow. Their princes will fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue. This will be their derision in the land of Egypt.
