¹וַיְהִ֣י בִשְׁמוֹנִ֣ים שָׁנָ֣ה וְאַרְבַּ֣ע מֵא֣וֹת שָׁנָ֡ה לְצֵ֣את בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל מֵאֶֽרֶץ־מִצְרַיִם֩ בַּשָּׁנָ֨ה הָרְבִיעִ֜ית בְּחֹ֣דֶשׁ זִ֗ו ה֚וּא הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י לִמְלֹ֥ךְ שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּ֥בֶן הַבַּ֖יִת לַיהוָֽה׃

vayhi vishmonim shana ve'arba' meot shana letzet bene-yisra'el me'eretz-mitzrayim bashana harvi'it bechodesh ziv hu hachodesh hasheni limlokh shelomo al-yisra'el vayyiven habbayit laADONAI

And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.

²וְהַבַּ֗יִת אֲשֶׁ֨ר בָּנָ֜ה הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה שִׁשִּֽׁים־אַמָּ֥ה אָרְכּ֖וֹ וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים רָחְבּ֑וֹ וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים אַמָּ֖ה קוֹמָתֽוֹ׃

vehabbayit asher bana hammelekh shelomo laADONAI shishim-amma arko ve'esrim rachbo usheloshim amma komato

And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits.

³וְהָאוּלָ֗ם עַל־פְּנֵי֙ הֵיכַ֣ל הַבַּ֔יִת עֶשְׂרִ֣ים אַמָּה֙ אָרְכּ֔וֹ עַל־פְּנֵ֖י רֹ֣חַב הַבָּ֑יִת עֶ֧שֶׂר בָּאַמָּ֛ה רָחְבּ֖וֹ עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הַבָּֽיִת׃

vehaulam al-pene hekhal habbayit esrim amma arko al-pene rochav habbayit eser ba'amma rachbo al-pene habbayit

And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.

⁴וַיַּ֣עַשׂ לַבָּ֔יִת חַלּוֹנֵ֖י שְׁקֻפִ֥ים אֲטֻמִֽים׃

vayya'as labbayit challone shekufim atumim

And for the house he made windows broad within, and narrow without.

⁵וַיִּבֶן֩ עַל־קִ֨יר הַבַּ֤יִת יצוע [יָצִ֨יעַ֙] סָבִ֔יב אֶת־קִיר֤וֹת הַבַּ֨יִת֙ סָבִ֔יב לַֽהֵיכָ֖ל וְלַדְּבִ֑יר וַיַּ֥עַשׂ צְלָע֖וֹת סָבִֽיב׃

vayyiven al-kir habbayit yatzia saviv et-kirot habbayit saviv lahekhal veladdevir vayya'as tzela'ot saviv

And against the wall of the house he built a side-structure round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the sanctuary; and he made side-chambers round about;

⁶היצוע [הַיָּצִ֨יעַ] הַתַּחְתֹּנָ֜ה חָמֵ֧שׁ בָּאַמָּ֣ה רָחְבָּ֗הּ וְהַתִּֽיכֹנָה֙ שֵׁ֤שׁ בָּֽאַמָּה֙ רָחְבָּ֔הּ וְהַ֨שְּׁלִישִׁ֔ית שֶׁ֥בַע בָּאַמָּ֖ה רָחְבָּ֑הּ כִּ֡י מִגְרָעוֹת֩ נָתַ֨ן לַבַּ֤יִת סָבִיב֙ ח֔וּצָה לְבִלְתִּ֖י אֲחֹ֥ז בְּקִֽירוֹת־הַבָּֽיִת׃

hayyatzia hattachtona chamesh ba'amma rachbah vehattikhona shesh ba'amma rachbah vehashelishit sheva' ba'amma rachbah ki migra'ot natan labbayit saviv chutza levilti achoz bekirot-habbayit

the nethermost story of the side-structure was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad; for on the outside he made rebatements in the wall of the house round about, that the beams should not have hold in the walls of the house.—

⁷וְהַבַּ֨יִת֙ בְּהִבָּ֣נֹת֔וֹ אֶֽבֶן־שְׁלֵמָ֥ה מַסָּ֖ע נִבְנָ֑ה וּמַקָּב֤וֹת וְהַגַּרְזֶן֙ כָּל־כְּלִ֣י בַרְזֶ֔ל לֹֽא־נִשְׁמַ֥ע בַּבַּ֖יִת בְּהִבָּנֹתֽוֹ׃

vehabbayit behibbanoto even-shelema massa' nivna umakkavot vehaggarzen kal-keli varzel lo-nishma' babbayit behibbanoto

For the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready at the quarry; and there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.—

⁸פֶּ֗תַח הַצֵּלָע֙ הַתִּ֣יכֹנָ֔ה אֶל־כֶּ֥תֶף הַבַּ֖יִת הַיְמָנִ֑ית וּבְלוּלִּ֗ים יַֽעֲלוּ֙ עַל־הַתִּ֣יכֹנָ֔ה וּמִן־הַתִּֽיכֹנָ֖ה אֶל־הַשְּׁלִשִֽׁים׃

petach hatzela' hattikhona el-ketef habbayit haymanit uvelulim ya'alu al-hattikhona umin-hattikhona el-hashelishim

The door for the lowest row of chambers was in the right side of the house and they went up by winding stairs into the middle row, and out of the middle into the third.

⁹וַיִּ֥בֶן אֶת־הַבַּ֖יִת וַיְכַלֵּ֑הוּ וַיִּסְפֹּ֤ן אֶת־הַבַּ֨יִת֙ גֵּבִ֔ים וּשְׂדֵרֹ֖ת בָּאֲרָזִֽים׃

vayyiven et-habbayit vaykhallehu vayyispon et-habbayit gevim usederot ba'arazim

So he built the house, and finished it; and he covered in the house with planks of cedar over beams.

¹⁰וַיִּ֤בֶן אֶת־היצוע [הַיָּצִ֨יעַ֙] עַל־כָּל־הַבַּ֔יִת חָמֵ֥שׁ אַמּ֖וֹת קֽוֹמָת֑וֹ וַיֶּאֱחֹ֥ז אֶת־הַבַּ֖יִת בַּעֲצֵ֥י אֲרָזִֽים׃

vayyiven et-hayyatzia al-kal-habbayit chamesh ammot komato vayye'echoz et-habbayit ba'atze arazim

And he built the stories of the side-structure against all the house, each five cubits high; and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

¹¹וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

vayhi devar-ADONAI el-shelomo lemor

And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying:

¹²הַבַּ֨יִת הַזֶּ֜ה אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֣ה בֹנֶ֗ה אִם־תֵּלֵ֤ךְ בְּחֻקֹּתַי֙ וְאֶת־מִשְׁפָּטַ֣י תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֔ה וְשָׁמַרְתָּ֥ אֶת־כָּל־מִצְוֺתַ֖י לָלֶ֣כֶת בָּהֶ֑ם וַהֲקִמֹתִ֤י אֶת־דְּבָרִי֙ אִתָּ֔ךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי אֶל־דָּוִ֥ד אָבִֽיךָ׃

habbayit hazze asher-atta vone im-telekh bechukkotay ve'et-mishpatay ta'ase veshamarta et-kal-mitzvotay lalekhet bahem vahakimoti et-devari ittakh asher dibbarti el-david avikha

’As for this house which thou art building, if thou wilt walk in My statutes, and execute Mine ordinances, and keep all My commandments to walk in them; then will I establish My word with thee, which I spoke unto David thy father;

¹³וְשָׁ֣כַנְתִּ֔י בְּת֖וֹךְ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלֹ֥א אֶעֱזֹ֖ב אֶת־עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

veshakhanti betokh bene yisra'el velo e'ezov et-ammi yisra'el

in that I will dwell therein among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel.’

¹⁴וַיִּ֧בֶן שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה אֶת־הַבַּ֖יִת וַיְכַלֵּֽהוּ׃

vayyiven shelomo et-habbayit vaykhallehu

So Solomon built the house, and finished it.

¹⁵וַיִּבֶן֩ אֶת־קִיר֨וֹת הַבַּ֤יִת מִבַּ֨יְתָה֙ בְּצַלְע֣וֹת אֲרָזִ֔ים מִקַּרְקַ֤ע הַבַּ֨יִת֙ עַד־קִיר֣וֹת הַסִּפֻּ֔ן צִפָּ֥ה עֵ֖ץ מִבָּ֑יִת וַיְצַ֛ף אֶת־קַרְקַ֥ע הַבַּ֖יִת בְּצַלְע֥וֹת בְּרוֹשִֽׁים׃

vayyiven et-kirot habbayit mibbayta betzal'ot arazim mikkarka' habbayit ad-kirot hassippun tzippa etz mibbayit vaytzaf et-karka' habbayit betzal'ot beroshim

And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar; from the floor of the house unto the joists of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the house with boards of cypress.

¹⁶וַיִּבֶן֩ אֶת־עֶשְׂרִ֨ים אַמָּ֜ה מירכותי [מִֽיַּרְכְּתֵ֤י] הַבַּ֨יִת֙ בְּצַלְע֣וֹת אֲרָזִ֔ים מִן־הַקַּרְקַ֖ע עַד־הַקִּיר֑וֹת וַיִּ֤בֶן לוֹ֙ מִבַּ֣יִת לִדְבִ֔יר לְקֹ֖דֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִֽׁים׃

vayyiven et-esrim amma miyyarkete habbayit betzal'ot arazim min-hakkarka' ad-hakkirot vayyiven lo mibbayit lidvir lekodesh hakkodashim

And he built twenty cubits on the hinder part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor unto the joists; he even built them for himself within, for a Sanctuary, even for the most holy place.

¹⁷וְאַרְבָּעִ֥ים בָּאַמָּ֖ה הָיָ֣ה הַבָּ֑יִת ה֖וּא הַהֵיכָ֥ל לִפְנָֽי׃

ve'arba'im ba'amma haya habbayit hu hahekhal lifnay

And the house, that is, the temple before [the Sanctuary], was forty cubits long.

¹⁸וְאֶ֤רֶז אֶל־הַבַּ֨יִת֙ פְּנִ֔ימָה מִקְלַ֣עַת פְּקָעִ֔ים וּפְטוּרֵ֖י צִצִּ֑ים הַכֹּ֣ל אֶ֔רֶז אֵ֥ין אֶ֖בֶן נִרְאָֽה׃

ve'erez el-habbayit penima mikla'at peka'im ufeture tzitzim hakkol erez en even nir'a

And the cedar on the house within was carved with knops and open flowers; all was cedar; there was no stone seen.

¹⁹וּדְבִ֧יר בְּתוֹךְ־הַבַּ֛יִת מִפְּנִ֖ימָה הֵכִ֑ין לְתִתֵּ֣ן שָׁ֔ם אֶת־אֲר֖וֹן בְּרִ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃

udevir betokh-habbayit mippenima hekhin letitten sham et-aron berit ADONAI

And he prepared the Sanctuary in the midst of the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

²⁰וְלִפְנֵ֣י הַדְּבִ֡יר עֶשְׂרִים֩ אַמָּ֨ה אֹ֜רֶךְ וְעֶשְׂרִ֧ים אַמָּ֣ה רֹ֗חַב וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים אַמָּה֙ קֽוֹמָת֔וֹ וַיְצַפֵּ֖הוּ זָהָ֣ב סָג֑וּר וַיְצַ֥ף מִזְבֵּ֖חַ אָֽרֶז׃

velifne haddevir esrim amma orekh ve'esrim amma rochav ve'esrim amma komato vaytzappehu zahav sagur vaytzaf mizbeach arez

And before the Sanctuary which was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof, overlaid with pure gold, he set an altar, which he covered with cedar.

²¹וַיְצַ֨ף שְׁלֹמֹ֧ה אֶת־הַבַּ֛יִת מִפְּנִ֖ימָה זָהָ֣ב סָג֑וּר וַיְעַבֵּ֞ר ברתיקות [בְּרַתּוּק֤וֹת] זָהָב֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַדְּבִ֔יר וַיְצַפֵּ֖הוּ זָהָֽב׃

vaytzaf shelomo et-habbayit mippenima zahav sagur vay'abber berattukot zahav lifne haddevir vaytzappehu zahav

So Solomon overlaid athe house within with pure gold; and he drew chains of gold across the wall before the Sanctuary; and he overlaid it with gold.

²²וְאֶת־כָּל־הַבַּ֛יִת צִפָּ֥ה זָהָ֖ב עַד־תֹּ֣ם כָּל־הַבָּ֑יִת וְכָל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֥חַ אֲֽשֶׁר־לַדְּבִ֖יר צִפָּ֥ה זָהָֽב׃

ve'et-kal-habbayit tzippa zahav ad-tom kal-habbayit vekhal-hammizbeach asher-laddevir tzippa zahav

And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until all the house was finished; also the whole altar that belonged to the Sanctuary he overlaid with gold.

²³וַיַּ֣עַשׂ בַּדְּבִ֔יר שְׁנֵ֥י כְרוּבִ֖ים עֲצֵי־שָׁ֑מֶן עֶ֥שֶׂר אַמּ֖וֹת קוֹמָתֽוֹ׃

vayya'as baddevir shene kheruvim atze-shamen eser ammot komato

And in the Sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive-wood, each ten cubits high.

²⁴וְחָמֵ֣שׁ אַמּ֗וֹת כְּנַ֤ף הַכְּרוּב֙ הָֽאֶחָ֔ת וְחָמֵ֣שׁ אַמּ֔וֹת כְּנַ֥ף הַכְּר֖וּב הַשֵּׁנִ֑ית עֶ֣שֶׂר אַמּ֔וֹת מִקְצ֥וֹת כְּנָפָ֖יו וְעַד־קְצ֥וֹת כְּנָפָֽיו׃

vechamesh ammot kenaf hakkeruv ha'echat vechamesh ammot kenaf hakkeruv hashenit eser ammot miktzot kenafav ve'ad-ketzot kenafav

And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub; from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.

²⁵וְעֶ֨שֶׂר֙ בָּֽאַמָּ֔ה הַכְּר֖וּב הַשֵּׁנִ֑י מִדָּ֥ה אַחַ֛ת וְקֶ֥צֶב אֶחָ֖ד לִשְׁנֵ֥י הַכְּרֻבִֽים׃

ve'eser ba'amma hakkeruv hasheni midda achat veketzev echad lishne hakkeruvim

And the other cherub was ten cubits; both the cherubim were of one measure and one form.

²⁶קוֹמַת֙ הַכְּר֣וּב הָֽאֶחָ֔ד עֶ֖שֶׂר בָּֽאַמָּ֑ה וְכֵ֖ן הַכְּר֥וּב הַשֵּׁנִֽי׃

komat hakkeruv ha'echad eser ba'amma vekhen hakkeruv hasheni

The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.

²⁷וַיִּתֵּ֨ן אֶת־הַכְּרוּבִ֜ים בְּת֣וֹךְ ׀ הַבַּ֣יִת הַפְּנִימִ֗י וַֽיִּפְרְשׂוּ֮ אֶת־כַּנְפֵ֣י הַכְּרֻבִים֒ וַתִּגַּ֤ע כְּנַף־הָֽאֶחָד֙ בַּקִּ֔יר וּכְנַף֙ הַכְּר֣וּב הַשֵּׁנִ֔י נֹגַ֖עַת בַּקִּ֣יר הַשֵּׁנִ֑י וְכַנְפֵיהֶם֙ אֶל־תּ֣וֹךְ הַבַּ֔יִת נֹגְעֹ֖ת כָּנָ֥ף אֶל־כָּנָֽף׃

vayyitten et-hakkeruvim betokh habbayit happenimi vayyifresu et-kanfe hakkeruvim vattigga' kenaf-ha'echad bakkir ukhenaf hakkeruv hasheni noga'at bakkir hasheni vekhanfehem el-tokh habbayit nog'ot kanaf el-kanaf

And he set the cherubim within the inner house; and the wings of the cherubim were stretched forth, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

²⁸וַיְצַ֥ף אֶת־הַכְּרוּבִ֖ים זָהָֽב׃

vaytzaf et-hakkeruvim zahav

And he overlaid the cherubim with gold.

²⁹וְאֵת֩ כָּל־קִיר֨וֹת הַבַּ֜יִת מֵסַ֣ב ׀ קָלַ֗ע פִּתּוּחֵי֙ מִקְלְעוֹת֙ כְּרוּבִ֣ים וְתִֽמֹרֹ֔ת וּפְטוּרֵ֖י צִצִּ֑ים מִלִּפְנִ֖ים וְלַחִיצֽוֹן׃

ve'et kal-kirot habbayit mesav kala' pittuche mikle'ot keruvim vetimorot ufeture tzitzim millifnim velachitzon

And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubim and palm-trees and open flowers, within and without.

³⁰וְאֶת־קַרְקַ֥ע הַבַּ֖יִת צִפָּ֣ה זָהָ֑ב לִפְנִ֖ימָה וְלַחִיצֽוֹן׃

ve'et-karka' habbayit tzippa zahav lifnima velachitzon

And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.

³¹וְאֵת֙ פֶּ֣תַח הַדְּבִ֔יר עָשָׂ֖ה דַּלְת֣וֹת עֲצֵי־שָׁ֑מֶן הָאַ֥יִל מְזוּז֖וֹת חֲמִשִֽׁית׃

ve'et petach haddevir asa daltot atze-shamen ha'ayil mezuzot chamishit

And for the entrance of the Sanctuary he made doors of olive-wood, the door-posts within the frame having five angles.

³²וּשְׁתֵּי֮ דַּלְת֣וֹת עֲצֵי־שֶׁמֶן֒ וְקָלַ֣ע עֲ֠לֵיהֶם מִקְלְע֨וֹת כְּרוּבִ֧ים וְתִמֹר֛וֹת וּפְטוּרֵ֥י צִצִּ֖ים וְצִפָּ֣ה זָהָ֑ב וַיָּ֛רֶד עַל־הַכְּרוּבִ֥ים וְעַל־הַתִּֽמֹר֖וֹת אֶת־הַזָּהָֽב׃

ushete daltot atze-shemen vekala' alehem mikle'ot keruvim vetimorot ufeture tzitzim vetzippa zahav vayyared al-hakkeruvim ve'al-hattimorot et-hazzahav

And as for the two doors of olive-wood, he carved upon them carvings of cherubim and palm-trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread the gold upon the cherubim, and upon the palm-trees.

³³וְכֵ֥ן עָשָׂ֛ה לְפֶ֥תַח הַֽהֵיכָ֖ל מְזוּז֣וֹת עֲצֵי־שָׁ֑מֶן מֵאֵ֖ת רְבִעִֽית׃

vekhen asa lefetach hahekhal mezuzot atze-shamen me'et revi'it

So also made he for the entrance of the temple door-posts of olive-wood, within a frame four-square;

³⁴וּשְׁתֵּ֥י דַלְת֖וֹת עֲצֵ֣י בְרוֹשִׁ֑ים שְׁנֵ֨י צְלָעִ֜ים הַדֶּ֤לֶת הָֽאַחַת֙ גְּלִילִ֔ים וּשְׁנֵ֧י קְלָעִ֛ים הַדֶּ֥לֶת הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית גְּלִילִֽים׃

ushete daltot atze veroshim shene tzela'im haddelet ha'achat gelilim ushene kela'im haddelet hashenit gelilim

and two doors of cypress-wood; the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

³⁵וְקָלַ֤ע כְּרוּבִים֙ וְתִ֣מֹר֔וֹת וּפְטֻרֵ֖י צִצִּ֑ים וְצִפָּ֣ה זָהָ֔ב מְיֻשָּׁ֖ר עַל־הַמְּחֻקֶּֽה׃

vekala' keruvim vetimorot ufeture tzitzim vetzippa zahav meyushar al-hammechukke

And he carved thereon cherubim and palm-trees and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold fitted upon the graven work.

³⁶וַיִּ֨בֶן֙ אֶת־הֶחָצֵ֣ר הַפְּנִימִ֔ית שְׁלֹשָׁ֖ה טוּרֵ֣י גָזִ֑ית וְט֖וּר כְּרֻתֹ֥ת אֲרָזִֽים׃

vayyiven et-hechatzer happenimit shelosha ture gazit vetur kerutot arazim

And he built the inner court with three rows of hewn stone, and a row of cedar beams.

³⁷בַּשָּׁנָה֙ הָֽרְבִיעִ֔ית יֻסַּ֖ד בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה בְּיֶ֖רַח זִֽו׃

bashana harvi'it yussad bet ADONAI beyerach ziv

In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Ziv.

³⁸וּבַשָּׁנָה֩ הָאַחַ֨ת עֶשְׂרֵ֜ה בְּיֶ֣רַח בּ֗וּל ה֚וּא הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁמִינִ֔י כָּלָ֣ה הַבַּ֔יִת לְכָל־דְּבָרָ֖יו וּלְכָל־משפטו [מִשְׁפָּטָ֑יו] וַיִּבְנֵ֖הוּ שֶׁ֥בַע שָׁנִֽים׃

uvashana ha'achat esre beyerach bul hu hachodesh hashemini kala habbayit lekhal-devarav ulekhal-mishpatav vayyivnehu sheva' shanim

And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.

¹In the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the LORD’s house.

²The house which King Solomon built for the LORD had a length of sixty cubits, and its width twenty, and its height thirty cubits.

³The porch in front of the temple of the house had a length of twenty cubits, which was along the width of the house. Ten cubits was its width in front of the house.

⁴He made windows of fixed lattice work for the house.

⁵Against the wall of the house, he built floors all around, against the walls of the house all around, both of the temple and of the inner sanctuary; and he made side rooms all around.

⁶The lowest floor was five cubits wide, and the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for on the outside he made offsets in the wall of the house all around, that the beams should not be inserted into the walls of the house.

⁷The house, when it was under construction, was built of stone prepared at the quarry; and no hammer or ax or any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was under construction.

⁸The door for the middle side rooms was in the right side of the house. They went up by winding stairs into the middle floor, and out of the middle into the third.

⁹So he built the house and finished it; and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar.

¹⁰He built the floors all along the house, each five cubits high; and they rested on the house with timbers of cedar.

¹¹The LORD’s word came to Solomon, saying,

¹²“Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in my statutes, and execute my ordinances, and keep all my commandments to walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father.

¹³I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.”

¹⁴So Solomon built the house and finished it.

¹⁵He built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar; from the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood. He covered the floor of the house with cypress boards.

¹⁶He built twenty cubits of the back part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the ceiling. He built this within, for an inner sanctuary, even for the most holy place.

¹⁷In front of the temple sanctuary was forty cubits long.

¹⁸There was cedar on the house within, carved with buds and open flowers. All was cedar. No stone was visible.

¹⁹He prepared an inner sanctuary in the middle of the house within, to set the ark of the LORD’s covenant there.

²⁰Within the inner sanctuary was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in its height. He overlaid it with pure gold. He covered the altar with cedar.

²¹So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold. He drew chains of gold across before the inner sanctuary, and he overlaid it with gold.

²²He overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. He also overlaid the whole altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary with gold.

²³In the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

²⁴Five cubits was the length of one wing of the cherub, and five cubits was the length of the other wing of the cherub. From the tip of one wing to the tip of the other was ten cubits.

²⁵The other cherub was ten cubits. Both the cherubim were of one measure and one form.

²⁶One cherub was ten cubits high, and so was the other cherub.

²⁷He set the cherubim within the inner house. The wings of the cherubim were stretched out, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the middle of the house.

²⁸He overlaid the cherubim with gold.

²⁹He carved all the walls of the house around with carved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, inside and outside.

³⁰He overlaid the floor of the house with gold, inside and outside.

³¹For the entrance of the inner sanctuary, he made doors of olive wood. The lintel and door posts were a fifth part of the wall.

³²So he made two doors of olive wood; and he carved on them carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold. He spread the gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.

³³He also made the entrance of the temple door posts of olive wood, out of a fourth part of the wall,

³⁴and two doors of cypress wood. The two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

³⁵He carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold fitted on the engraved work.

³⁶He built the inner court with three courses of cut stone and a course of cedar beams.

³⁷The foundation of the LORD’s house was laid in the fourth year, in the month Ziv.

³⁸In the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished throughout all its parts and according to all its specifications. So he spent seven years building it.
