Can I just read the Gospels for myself?

Yes, please do. Start with Matthew: it opens with "the son of David, the son of Abraham" and quotes the Tanakh on almost every page. Or Luke, which starts in the Temple.

You don't need anyone's permission, and you don't need to believe anything first. Read Matthew as a Jewish book, which it is: a genealogy from Abraham, a new Moses on a mountain, the Torah taught and deepened.

Our reader shows the New Covenant in the World Messianic Bible, which uses Hebrew names (Yeshua, Miriam, Kefa).

Then read Isaiah 53 again, and ask the Ethiopian official's question: "Who is the prophet talking about?" (Acts 8:34).
